Tough love: How to flirt with tycoons and stay a virgin
Article Abstract:
Recent controversy about donations to the UK Labour party have called into question the whole issue of political party funding. Some observers believe that a limit should be imposed on political party funding, while others feel that there should be a shift towards public funding. Both the Labour and Conservative party realize that they will have to carefully consider in the future whether they should receive donations from leading businessmen. Prime Minister Tony Blair will have to show that he can stand up to business opinion when necessary, as well as following it.

Rebels hold key to MPs' code of conduct
Article Abstract:
The Nolan committee inquiry into standards in public life was set up in Oct 1995 at a time when there was considerable public concern about the private activities of public figures. The issue of financial incentives available to MPs has proved particularly controversial. There is now to be a House of Commons vote on a code of conduct for MPs, and the government may well face rebellion from within its ranks as some MPs object to the concept of having to disclose all their earnings.
