Article Abstract:
Recent developments in UK landlord and tenant law have given more power to landlords who are seeking to evict tenants. Until the end of Feb 1997, a verbal agreement between the landlord and tenant was interpreted as an assured tenancy, and it could prove very difficult for the landlord to evict the tenant. However, a verbal agreement is now to be interpreted as an assured shorthold tenancy. This means that the landlord is guaranteed the return of the property on two months' notice at any point after the tenancy has been in operation for at least four months.

The cowboy builder
Article Abstract:
It can be very hard to find a reliable workman to undertake household repairs. Many householders have had unfortunate experiences of poor workmanship and high bills. It is best to use someone recommended by a friend, or to make use of the helpline services offered by organisations such as the AA Home Assistance and Green Flag Home Assistance. It is important to select a workman who is a member of a trade organisation, although the extent to which the code of practice of such organisations is enforced can vary considerably.

Everyone loves Tessa
Article Abstract:
Tax Exempt Special Savings Accounts (Tessas), which were first introduced in Jan 1991, have proved extremely successful, and now hold vast sums of money. The first batch of these accounts is now reaching maturity, and this means that large sums of money will become available for a wide range of other investments. However, many holders of first-generation Tessas are in fact considering reinvesting the money in the same type of investment product.
