Actress Valerie Hobson trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She made her stage debut at the age of 15 in 'Orders Are Orders,' and was spotted by Oscar Hammerstein, who offered her a small part in 'Ball at the Savoy.' She made her first film, 'Eyes of Fate,' in 1933. She gained a contract with Universal Pictures at the age of 17, but was unhappy with the roles she was offered. She returned to the UK in 1936, and soon became a stylish leading lady in a considerable number of films.

Actress Sylvia Sidney entered the Theatre Guild School in New York, NY, at the age of 15. She made her professional debut at 16 in 'The Challenge of Youth' and made her Broadway debut at 17 in 'The Squall.' Her first film appearance was in 1927 in 'Broadway Nights,' but her first major film role came in the 1929 film 'Through Different Eyes.' She was signed to Paramount, but moved to the independent producer Walter Wanger in 1935.
