What words are worth
Article Abstract:
Very few publishing houses in the UK are now publishing poetry. Some observers believe that this is because poetry is not profitable, while others feel that the problem lies more with the idea of modern poetry and modern poets as a whole than with the desire of publishing houses to make a profit. It is possible that ordinary Britons are truly uncertain about what poetry is and about the purpose poets serve. Some journalists have referred to a poetry boom, but this is far from true. In fact, far too many poetry books are being published, and ordinary people are unwilling to buy poetry by poets with whom they are not familiar.

Poetry's human time bomb ticks again
Article Abstract:
Bertholt Brecht is likely to become increasingly better known for his poems than for his plays. He wrote poetry from his school days, but always regarded writing poetry as a private activity, and did not try very hard to have his poems published. Indeed, the majority of his poems remained unpublished at his death. His early poems are written as lyrics for the guitar, and this form of verbal presentation was to remain extremely important to him. He shows great variety as a poet, but was essentially a performance poet.

The problem with poetry
Article Abstract:
Public interest in poetry is growing, and there is a very large potential audience, according to the Poetry Society. However, poetry books still do not sell particularly well, and trade publishers are moving away from poetry because it is not profitable. Some observers believe that poetry would do better if literary editors in newspapers had a more positive attitude towards it.
