When food controls a mother's love: 'I fear anorexia will destroy their lives.' (children take on their parents eating problems)
Article Abstract:
An anorexic mother describes mealtimes with her two children aged eight and six. The girl and boy are both about a stone underweight. Their eating problems started when they began solid food. They refused to feed themselves until the age of seven, and hardly eat anything. Sweets had caused the mother to weigh 14 stone when 5 ft tall at the age of 14, so she did not wish the same to happen to her children. She had dieted so far that she went into intensive care in hospital, and later in life was unable to conceive.

Stand up straight, children
Article Abstract:
Back pain is becoming increasingly common among children and young adults in the UK. This seems to be because children are now more likely than they were in the past to have poor posture. In many cases, they sit badly in front of the television or a computer screen, and fail to take enough exercise. The National Back Pain Association is to launch a campaign later in 1996 to encourage schools and families to purchase high quality furniture for children.

UK: CHILDREN TO LIVE LESS LONG THAN PARENTS?
Article Abstract:
Owing to lack of exercise and poor diet today's children look set to live less long than their parents. Obesity in children has increased three fold since 1980 and lack of vitamin D is causing rickets to reappear. A link has been shown between low levels of fruit and vegetables and asthma and according to the National Diet and Nutrition Survey, one child in five eats no fruit in a week.
