Who do you turn to when justice is deaf?
Article Abstract:
People with hearing difficulties can often face severe difficulties if they have to become with any area of the legal system. Some deaf people are not given access to a sign language interpreter in magistrates' courts or police stations, and problems can also be caused if the standard of sign language interpreting is poor. Research has indicated that a deaf person is far more likely than a hearing person to receive a prison sentence, as there are no interpreters to help supervise non-custodial sentences.

When convicts know the law inside out
Article Abstract:
The work of John Hirst, who is currently serving a discretionary life sentence for manslaughter, in establishing a self-styled 'Prison Law Advice Centre' reflects the growing trend in the UK for prisoners to defend their rights through civil action. Many prisoners are now finding that a thorough knowledge of the law is more effective than violence in asserting their rights, and they are no longer reluctant to pursue their own grievances.

The great one-day sale scandal
Article Abstract:
There are now many 'liquidation' sales being advertised, promising electrical goods by well known manufacturers are very low prices. Such sales offer no legal protection for consumers, and are causing great concern among buyers and trading standards officers. Most people who purchase items in such a way feel that they have been deceived, and the people who run the sales operate only just within the law.
