Who wins in squatland?
Article Abstract:
Some people squatting in empty houses in London, England, are actively seeking to exploit the inefficiency of local authorities, placing themselves in a position where they can claim legal ownership of the property. Such squatters have many similarities with the ruthless capitalists they claim to hate. In contrast, other squatters are genuinely trying to work for the common good, ensuring that empty houses can offer much-needed and affordable accommodation. In Hackney, for example, squatters are planning to join the Network Housing Association.
