Why do Blair and Hague fall silent when the talk turns to Europe?

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Conservative party leader William Hague are both remaining strangely silent on the issue of whether the UK should join the single European currency. Supporters of the single European currency have put pressure on Blair to state openly that he is favour of UK membership, but he is in fact neither strongly for or strongly against it. He prefers simply to go along with the single European currency while also ensuring that he can back out at the last minute. The Conservative party fought the last general election on opposition to the single currency, but is now making no contribution to the debate at all.

Women are allowed to sell the policies, but not to make them

Article Abstract:

The fact that the UK government is gradually beginning to more closely reflect the gender proportions of society as a whole is to be welcomed. There are now more women in government departments, and a third of all ministers are women. However, it is a cause for concern that the new women ministers are so well-behaved and dependable. Women have still not established a presence in the very heart of policy-making, and are judged only on whether they are able to implement plans and present policies to the media.
