Why so many drop out of the New Deal
Article Abstract:
The UK government's New Deal job creation programme for unemployed people aged between 18 and 24 has attracted 20,000 employers. Many colleges have also signed up to offer courses for young people wishing to undertake full-time training before seeking employment. However, very few young people are actually taking up New Deal opportunities in many parts of the country. Furthermore, there are indications that those who do come forward have job expectations that the New Deal will probably not fulfill. There are reports that many New Deal participants are dropping out within a few weeks.

For richer and richer
Article Abstract:
Many extremely wealthy people seem to regard marriage as no more than a business partnership. This is particularly true of women, who often scheme to ensure that they receive as large a divorce settlement as possible. In the real business world, it would be totally unacceptable to behave in this way, which shows a serious lack of trust in the relationship. This behaviour is reminiscent of the time when women lacked the education or opportunity to earn their own living.
