Civil war leaves once-proud Georgian science in tatters
Article Abstract:
The loss of Soviet funding, a civil war and a shattered economy have created a crisis for Georgia's scientific community. ONly a few scientists working on international grants make enough to live on. The IMF instructed Georgia to cut 60% of its public sector jobs, most of which are scientists.

Baltimore defends paper at center of misconduct case
Article Abstract:
Imanishi-Kari is appealing the finding of the Office of Research Integrity that she fabricated data on a paper published in Cell, before a Dept of Health and Human Services board. Co-author and Nobel laureate Baltimore defended the paper's validity although he had retracted the paper in 1991.
