Dioxin receptor knocked out
Article Abstract:
The aryl hydrocarbon (Ah) receptor protein detoxifies many toxic chemicals, but is suspected of promoting the toxic effects of the pollutant dioxin. Knockout mice, bioengineered without the Ah receptor gene, all suffer liver damage, indicating the receptor is vital for the liver's immune system.

Joint dioxin research imperiled
Article Abstract:
Vietnamese officials confiscated research materials on the effects of Agent Orange that had been collected by an international research project. The seizure may reflect Vietnamese fears that the Agent Orange research could harm future Vietnam-US ties.
