How Stimulant Drugs May Calm Hyperactivity
Article Abstract:
Doctors typically prescribe a stimulant, such as Ritalin, to children diagnosed as hyperactive. Neuroscientists find this odd because the drugs increase the levels of dopamine, an activity producing neurotransmitter. A research team's report, however, suggests that the drugs work by increasing the levels of serotonin, a calming neurotransmitter.

DNA ordering on a lipid membrane
Article Abstract:
New techniques such as atomic force microscopy (AFM) and near-field optical microscopy are enabling theoreticians and molecular biologists to gain a clearer understanding of the structure of bioassemblies. This research could lead to the use of bioassemblies to deliver intact genetic material.

Lipid A: target for antibacterial drugs
Article Abstract:
Researchers have developed a new bacterial agent that targets lipid A of the bacterial outer membrane. The agent acts by inhibiting the synthesis of lipopolysaccharide, thus overcoming the impermeability of the bacteria.
