Newark highway project nears completion
Article Abstract:
Construction activities for the southbound viaduct connecting Pulaski Skyway and the Newark International Airport will be finished by 3rd qtr 1998. The $73-million project uses cast-in-place piers to carry a concrete deck and prestressed concrete beams. The construction activities were planned such that interference with airport and rail yard operation is minimized. Difficulties were encountered in demolishing the foundations of the original viaduct on which tracks were laid and erroneous plans, which necessitated in situ adjustments.
