The Real World Computing Program: MITI's next computer research initiative

MITI will provide $500 million for a national research program to develop advance information technologies with the flexibility of human information processing. The program has five research themes: theoretical foundations, novel applications, optical systems, massively parallel computing and neural networks.

Creative Sparks
Article Abstract:
Ideas generated by a computerized routine were compared to ideas invented by humans. Human judges than determined that the computer-generated outcomes were superior and more creative than human ideas. The study begs questions about how we define creativity and the creative process.

Underfunding of basic science in Japan
