Article Abstract:
An ecological study that assessed habitat conservation plans (HCPs) was generally favorable on the use of science in HCPs. HCPs are an attempt to create compromises between commercial and environmental interests and had previously been criticized as failing to protect endangered species.

Filling in Flroida's gaps: species protection done right?
Article Abstract:
The Conservation and Recreation Lands (CARL) project began with an effort to preserve the Pinhook Swamp in Florida and has become the largest US ecosystem plan. The project uses an approach that combines economics, politics and ecology in working to protect species.

Is Endangered Species Act in danger?
Article Abstract:
The Endangered Species Act may not win reauthorization in 1995. Opponents claim the act is too costly, violates the amendment against taking property without compensation and fails to recover threatened species as it was intended to do.
