Science funding: up in smoke?
Article Abstract:
The federal budget for 1999 has tied funding for research to expected tobacco revenues due to be available to the Treasury Department by October, 1998. Critics charge that the since there is no definitive agreement on a tobacco bill, there can be no certainty on the availability of such funds.

Supreme Court to judges: start thinking like scientists
Article Abstract:
The US Supreme Court threw out the long-held standard of admissibility of scientific evidence based on general acceptance by the scientific community. In 'Daubert v Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals,' they ruled that judges must evaluate the scientific validity of the research cited.

Supreme Court to weigh science
