The right climate for assessment

Robert Watson is the newest chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The international program studies greenhouse warming and produces reports of its assessments every five years. Watson hopes that the report due in 2000 will influence public policy.

Earth's surface may move itself
Article Abstract:
New computer models attempt to identify the driving force behind the movement of earth's tectonic plates. Although not perfect representationns, the newer models favor slab pull as the driving force over ridge push or mantle drag.

Two new theories challenge the existing theory on the origin of planetary rotation. One theory is a modification of the traditional small-collisions scenario. The other theory explores scenarios involving catastrophic collisions.
