Language in multimedia: interaction of spoken and written information
Article Abstract:
The advantages of presentations that use both written and spoken modalities outweigh the disadvantages. Although the audience's relational processing is decreased by alternating the modalities, item-specific processing and recognition memory are increased. If the two modalities are used simultaneously, neither item-specific elaboration or relational processing appear to be affected.
