A (strong?) voice from the south: Latin and American sociology today
Article Abstract:
The strong institutionalization process in sociology as a discipline in Latin America in recent decades and the successful development of high-level training within MSc and PhD graduate programmes are discussed. A research on gender and work in Latin America and on flexible production indicates that sociology of work is important in understanding the recent phenomenon in developed countries

Elias repeatedly makes the point that the social sciences are at an early phase of development as compared with the natural sciences and hence, high levels of predictive success cannot be expected. As a result Arpad Szakolczai's comments completely underplay the distinctive character of sociological knowledge, which is central to Elias's own sociology and theory of science.
