Community economic development: Applications and limitations in Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
Community economic development (CED) programs in Hong Kong began in 1950 when credit unions were established for civil servants, but even in 2000, the number of jobs created and the amount of money generated by most CED projects are limited, as marginal groups engage in these projects. Assessing the current applications and their problems, consolidating internal and external communities, lack of management in the distribution of work and returns, lack of professional support, and balancing of economic gains and social objectives, the possibility of CED as a viable alternative seems distant.

Social capital and economic development in regional Australia: A case study
Article Abstract:
A case study of social capital and economic development conducted in two towns in regional Australia between 2001 and 2002 is reported. The results suggest that higher level of social capital within a small regional community would have a positive impact on the level of economic development, and both bonding and bridging social capital are important for successful community economic development outcomes.
