Depression, smoking, activity level, and health status: pretreatment predictors of attrition in obesity treatment
Article Abstract:
Obese individuals who are depressed, smoke, are sedentary or have high blood pressure are more likely to drop out of a clinical weight loss treatment program. Individuals who are undergoing treatment for high blood pressure attend more weight loss sessions than those who are not treated. This is probably because individuals who are concerned about their health comply more with the weight loss program. An analysis of the psychiatric and medical conditions of obese individuals identifies subjects at high risk for treatment attrition.

Current dieting, weight loss history, and weight suppression: behavioral correlates of three dimensions of dieting
Article Abstract:
The three conceptual dimensions of dieting, current dieting status, dieting history and weight suppression are independently associated with weight concerns and loss practices. Among these, current dieting status is consistently associated with dietary consumption, and weight suppression is related to higher physical activity. Differentiation of weight suppression and current dieting status is useful for studying behaviors related to weight loss maintenance, while dieting history measures are beneficial in clinical set ups.

Restrictive dieting vs. "undeiting": effects on eating regulation in obese clinic attenders
Article Abstract:
The best marker of obese people's susceptibility to counter-regulation seems to be their vulnerability to binge eating. It is suggested that weight loss dieting creates a raised susceptibility to overeating in overweight people.
