Drug discrimination under a concurrent schedule
Article Abstract:
Research on animals with drug discrimination has neglected the schedule of reinforcement to maintain responding. An experiment was designed to see if drug stimuli could control respodning under relative reinforcement conditions. A two-key concurrent schedule trains three pigeons to detect a five mg/kg dose of pentobarbital in saline. The higher reinforcement key draws almost 70% of responses under the pentobarbital stimulus, while the saline stimulus draws only 30% of responses to the same key. An increase in the pentobarbital and chlordiazepoxide dose increases the appropriate pentobarbital response.

Dynamics of time discrimination: II. The effects of multiple impulses
Article Abstract:
Two experiments on pigeons reveal that time discrimination is determined by the frequency and recency of the preceding interval between food presentations. The local effect of an impulse may combine with other impulses and reduce the waiting period in subsequent postimpulse intervals. The diffusion generalization model deals with the basic processes underlying these effects, but fails to deal with all aspects of time discrimination. Implications for theories of time discrimination are mentioned.
