Substantiation of reported child abuse or neglect: predictors and implications
Article Abstract:
Child abuse and child neglect cases were studied in order to assess underreporting and overreporting of child abuse cases by child protection workers. The study analyzed data from 3,228 cases of child abuse and neglect reported to the welfare department in South Australia, for a one-year period between 1988-89. The victim's age and the caseworker's perception of the severity of the case predicted reporting of cases of child abuse and neglect.
