Implementing the Family Preservation Program: feedback from focus groups with consumers and providers of services
Article Abstract:
Reforms must be initiated to successfully implement the Family Preservation Act (FPA). Under the FPA, the Family Preservation and Support Program allots funds that communities can use in strengthening and preserving at-risk families, such as assisting families during crises, preventing children from being placed in out-of-home care and ensuring the safety of children in the home. New programs and procedures that will appeal to consumers and meet their needs must be developed by local communities.

A community response to tragedy: individualized services for families
Article Abstract:
'Breakthrough for Families' was pioneered as a result of the murder of a 13 year old homeless girl who had used a variety of community agencies. The 'wraparound' initiative aims to offer an alternative to agency-based services and a tailored solution for families with children at risk of abuse or neglect; parental substance abuse; and those using more than one service agency. An evaluation of the initiative is included.
