A study done using data from a nationwide survey of the social structure that was conducted in 1999 to determine what impact the new technologies, the new kinds of production, have on the traditional relations of power and subordination that are typical of Russia's economy focusing special attention on topics of gender are stated. The study demonstrated that the adoption of new technologies has not had much impact on the social differences between men and women and it is suggested that any progress towards equality, even if very gradual, lies in the sphere of what is called structural power.
