Popular culture and reconstructing multi-tiered reality: gender, Latino, subaltern, and criminal studies
Article Abstract:
The need to formalize popular culture studies is making it necessary to focus on subject areas that will promote intellectual stimulation, growth and globalization. More debates now dwell on the necessity of strengthening popular culture studies by incorporating new academic disciplines, which includes criminal, gender and subaltern scholarship. Since popular culture has a global and ecumenizing mission, popular culture studies is challenged with the task of reconstructing a multi-tiered reality where such developments as gender minorities studies and subalternism are a vital part.

Anglophone popular culture in the Mexican University English Curriculum
Article Abstract:
The dated English curriculum in Mexican colleges needs to be revised to include courses on Anglophone popular culture. This revision will stimulate the students' critical responses to hispanic-anglo and transcultural understanding in the process of learning the English language. An understanding of Anglophone culture through a study of its popular texts, such as films and books will enable students to perceive their own and other cultures in a new light. The impact of American films such as 'Jungle Fever,' 'Roger and Me' and 'Blade Runner' on Mexican audiences are discussed.
