Social networks and mental health service utilisation - a literature review
Article Abstract:
A review of related literature on social networks, social support and mental health service use in patients with mental illness was conducted. Most of the studies suggested that smaller social networks or less social support are related with more frequent hospitalization. Qualities of the social network were also associated with increased hospitalization. The link between social networks and other types of service use was not supported with enough evidence.
