Reinforcement expectations explain the relationship between depressive history and smoking status in college students
Article Abstract:
The notion attached to nicotine's reinforced effect is co-related to depression vulnerabilities and could be a link to the history of depression and smoking. Adolescents having a history of depression have unrealistic and exaggerated opinions about the advantages attached to nicotine, which makes them vulnerable and susceptible to smoking.

Double blind trial of the effects of trytophan depletion on depression and cerebral blood flow in smokers
Article Abstract:
Studies indicate that smokers have an increased prevalence of depression and evidence that nicotine normalizes qEEG indices of left frontal lobe activity. It was expected that in smokers depression during tryptophan depletion (TD) would be associated with decreased cerebral blood flow, specifically in the left frontal lobe.
