Sergio Vieira de Mello: leading the humanitarian front
Article Abstract:
Several international crises have led to the increase in the number of refugees all over the world. However, strong economies which are capable of handling a large number of refugees have developed policies that actually block asylum claims. Condoning human rights abuses can destabilize the global economy and, therefore, refugee asylum should be granted to those who are in need. As many refugees are being driven away, a growing divided develops which leads the refugees into countries which are not well-equipped to handle the large numbers of asylum seekers.

His roots are San Antonio, but his world is the globe
Article Abstract:
Father Virgilio P. Elizondo has provided an example of a culture-based religious education program with his founding of the Mexican American Cultural Center in San Antonio, TX. The center has become a model for similar programs in France, Australia and other countries. It was envisioned to provide community-centered religious training for Mexican-American Catholics. Father Elizondo has written nine books in English, Spanish, German and French, has spoken at international gatherings and has lectured at universities and major institutes around the world.

From Mexico to ambassador to the world: Bill Richardson, US Ambassador to the UN
Article Abstract:
Bill Richardson has been recently elected as US Ambassador to the UN. He expresses his desire to use his position in the UN to help promote human rights and religious freedom. His religious beliefs played a significant role during his term in northern Mexico's Third Congressional District. Furthermore, he claims that his best preparation for his new UN post was working with a diverse ethnic, cultural and religious groups in his former district.
