Former illegal migrant worker gains university honors
Article Abstract:
Francisco Jimenez was a Mexican-born boy of four when he was smuggled into the US by his parents. In junior high school, Jimenez, together with his mother and brother, was deported. They returned to the US when a Japanese sharecropper sponsored them through employment. Earning his college diploma from the Santa Clara University, Jimenez went on to achieve a doctorate from Columbia University. He went back to Santa Clara as a faculty member and, in 1991, was promoted associate vice president of the university. Jimenez has assailed Proposition 187 as he believes that this will deny basic rights such as education and health care to undocumented immigrants.

The human costs of border enforcement: migrant deaths at the Texas-Mexico Border
Article Abstract:
The occurrence of a large number of migrant deaths at the Texas-Mexico border is discussed. It is observed that there is no way to determine the exact number of people who die as they attempt to cross the Rio Grande between Mexico and Texas. An estimated number of migrant deaths between the years 1985 and 1994 borders between 1,400 and 3,000. Unfortunately, such migrant deaths have received relatively little attention.

Migrant women: "May you reach the goals you have chosen."
Article Abstract:
Single female migrants need pastoral attention since their condition requires protection and defense from abuse and exploitation. Many of these migrant women fall victims to prostitution. With the growing number of female migrants, social policies implemented should guarantee equal treatment and opportunity for them. The church should serve as their safe haven wherever they may be.
