Social tension in the coal regions: based on the findings of the "monitoring the social consequences of restructuring Russia's coal industry" survey
Article Abstract:
This article examines the social problems of Russia's six coal mining regions. The author, analyzing results from a sociological survey, maintains the residents of the regions typically complained about lack of roads, lack of children's playgrounds, insufficient heating for living quarters, housing shortages, and lack of supplies, and over one quarter of the residents stated they would like to leave.

This article examines the hiring policies of Russian firms. The author, maintaining there has been a high level of hiring during a time of declined output, concludes hiring has generally been a means to replace departing employees rather than fulfilling needs of a growing market place, and the majority of the employees who left jobs did so based upon job dissatisfaction.

Job satisfaction and satisfaction with life
Article Abstract:
This article discusses the results of lifestyle studies conducted in Russia. The authors, examining job satisfaction and overall satisfaction with life, conclude Russians who fear losing their job have higher satisfaction rates regarding attitudes toward work and aspects of their everyday lives compared with Russians who do not fear losing their jobs.
