Sociology of law in Brazil: a critical approach
Article Abstract:
Brazilian sociolegal research has developed in two largely mutually exclusive directions. One is produced by jurists and centers on low codes and legal tools, and the other is developed by sociologists and examines criminality, institutions of social control, and relations of social groups to the law.

Sociology of law in Britain
Article Abstract:
The separation identified by British sociologists in the 1970s between "sociology of law" and "socio-legal studies" has widened. The first is theoretically oriented, the second based on empiricism, and continued robustness in this field is best ensured by greater synthesis between these strands.

The sociology of law in global perspective

American sociologists did not examine how their field applied to law before the 1950s. Sociolegal theory is, at the beginning of the 21st century, an international enterprise with a metatheoretical paradigm and increasing scholarly interest.
