The future of SIPP for analyzing disability and health
Article Abstract:
The goals of the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) include determining extent of participation in federally funded programs and that is directly or indirectly related to health and disability. Thus, to meet SIPP's goals, data on health and disability and their bearing on federal programs must be consistently collected. Full series of disability questions should be included and these should occasionally be asked twice of the same group in order to determine changes in disability. Questions about onset of disability should be asked and disability questions should be extended to children.

The future of SIPP for analyzing interactions of family composition and income change
Article Abstract:
A number of changes to the content and administration practices of the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) will render its data more useful for the study of the interaction of family composition and income change. The concept of family has changed since the inception of SIPP and interview technique and questions must reflect this. Family economics has also changed in many ways and information about resources pooled in non-traditional ways is important as is information concerning extended families. Children should also be tracked when they leave the SIPP sample.

The significance of SIPP for child support research and policy formulation
Article Abstract:
Information obtained from the Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) core and its child support, marital history and other modules will provide an understanding of the apparent inability of the federal and state Child Support Enforcement programs to make headway against the growing problem of absent fathers. SIPP has been useful in numerous decisions concerning child support policy. It supplies information on the relation of participation in programs such as Aid to Families with Dependent Children and the payment of child support.
