Warnings versus alarms: terrorist threat analysis applied to the Iranian state-run media
Article Abstract:
Iran's sponsorship of terroristic acts against the US from 1980 to 1990 has been studied. A quantitative content analysis of official Iranian state-run media has been carried out to find out if support for terrorism against the US is an official Iranian state policy. Results do not indicate any statistical evidence that Iran officially sanctioned terrorism against the US during the given period. Terroristic acts do not increase as spontaneous reactions to perceived threats from the US or the West in general.
