Convergence across biomes to common rain-use efficiency:
Article Abstract:
Average rain-use efficiency (RUE) varies between biomes, supposedly because of differences in vegetation structure and biogeochemical constraints. However during the driest years at each site, there is convergence to a common maximum RUE [RUE(sub max)] that is typical of arid ecosystems.

The limits to tree height
Article Abstract:
The height to which trees can grow depends on the resources available and the competition for height. As trees grow taller, increasing leaf water stress due to gravity and path length resistance may ultimately limit leaf expansion and photosynthesis for further height growth.

Tall storeys
Article Abstract:
The results of linked field and laboratory studies indicated that the fundamental control of maximum tree height is water supply to the treetop. The tallest tree is found in California is a giant redwood, which is 112.7 m high is equivalent to a 30-storey building.
