Iron seeding creates fleeting carbon sink in Southern Ocean
Article Abstract:
As part of the southern ocean iron experiment in 2002, a team of oceanographers from Californian marine research institutes dropped 1.7 tones of iron sulphate in the sea. The technique of dumping iron sulphate in the ocean to cause plankton blooms might not seem an eco-friendly way to tackle global warming, but according to the most extended trial of the technique it could prove an effective one.

Putting the carbon back: The hundred billion tonne challenge
Article Abstract:
The carbon capture and storage (CCS) strategy is designed to allow energy to be generated from fossil fuels without the carbon dioxide produced in the process, ending up in the atmosphere. The different mechanisms used to keep carbon dioxide out of atmosphere and the world's coal-fired power plant's plans to start storing away their carbon are discussed.
