Ecologists attack plans for rare-species act
Article Abstract:
The governors of the western US states are planning to reform the Endangered Species Act, as the states have the wildest landscapes and the largest number of endangered species in the country. The Endangered Species Act, administered by the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) maintain a list of more than 1,000 threatened and endangered flora and fauna, protecting the 'critical habitat' in which they live, helping recovery efforts such as breeding programmes.

Can bans stimulate wildlife trade?
Article Abstract:
The proactive management of trading endangered wildlife species might help in species conservation. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) can help in delivering the sustainable use of natural resources and its parties will show whether or not they have the resolve to meet the challenges of poverty reduction and species conservation.
