Habitat selection modeling for northern bobwhites on subtropical rangeland
Article Abstract:
Many wildlife habitat management decisions are based on the knowledge of habitat preference and the theory of preference-avoidance analysis. A new study of habitat selection by northern bobwhites in subtropical Texan rangeland shows that bobwhite habitat is characterized by patchy landscapes containing some row crops and grassland and much woody edge. A remote-sensing modeling approach is used to determine bobwhite habitat.

Flight behavior of northern bobwhites
Article Abstract:
Flight behavior of the northern bobwhite was analyzed for incorporation into the design of escape covers in managed wildlife areas. The most significant of the study's findings was the need of bobwhites for a radial flight space that formed a 90 degree angle from the point of takeoff, which in cover design/vegetation management translates into a minimum of 100m distance from the edge of the vegetation.

Microclimate versus predation risk in roost and covert selection by bobwhites
Article Abstract:
Microclimate and predation risk are compared as factors influencing the selection of stopping points by northern bobwhites. Results concluded that microclimate was the primary selection factor for coverts because prevention of hyperthermia necessitated that bobwhites select cooler microclimates within the study area.
