The descent of utility
Article Abstract:
The sport utility vehicle (SUV), which is a descendant of the World War II jeep, has become so popular that 43% of all new automobiles sold in 1997 are SUVs. This popularity is not reduced by safety concerns and its highly polluting characteristic because of relatively high consumption of gas. Concerned groups have presented studies which indicate that SUVs are less safe than automobiles. Large insurance companies have proposed the increase of liability insurance rates for SUVs.
