Mesodermal Wnt2b signalling positively regulates liver specification
Article Abstract:
The mutations affecting endothermal organ morphogenesis is screened to identify a unique phenotype, prometheus (prt) mutants that exhibit profound, though transient, defects in liver specification. The analysis has revealed an unexpected positive role for Wnt signalling in liver specification and has indicated a possible common theme for the localized formation of endodermal organs along the gut tube.

Vertebrate smoothened functions at the primary cilium
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that mammalian Smoothened (Smo), a seven-transmembrane protein essential for Hh signaling expressed on the primary cilium, is presented. The translocation in Smo to primary cilia depends upon a conserved hydrophobic and basic residue sequence homologous to a domain shown to be required for the ciliary localization of seven-transmembrane proteins in Caenorhabdities elegans

Twisting the body into shape
Article Abstract:
Molecular signals are not the only forces that shape and pattern the developing embryo. Emmanuel Farge provides evidence that the mechanical forces generated by cellular migration can also play a role in shaping the embryo.
