Xuemei Han, a Chinese graduate student in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University has complained that professors are reluctant to work with her because she needs extra help in preparing manuscripts and grant proposals. Although Yale University has denied the accusations of discrimination against Chinese students, Han's plight reflects the cases of many other foreign students who feel isolated from their US lab-mates.

The physicist Nima Arkani-Hamed from Harvard University is quite hopeful that in 2008 the extremely powerful particle accelerator will be set free by CERN, the particle-physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland. Furthermore, if things work as anticipated by Nima, then at that time a particular demonstration will identify the first and foremost proof to hold good the string theory.
