Working in a wider Europe

Article Abstract:

European scientist are being encouraged to work in European countries other than their own. Incentives provided by the $710 million EC Human Capital and Mobility scheme, established in 1992 to expand human research resources in a unified Europe. A survey of scientist who have signified interest to work in other countries show that scientists from poorer nations exhibited greater interest in the scheme than those from advanced nations like Germany, France, Italy and the UK. This is an indication that excellent facilities and viable research opportunities in France and Germany keep their scientists at home.

Research heads seek European platform

Article Abstract:

Austrian and Germany science ministers are supporting a bid by the European Science Foundation (ESF) to advise on European Commission research issues. The ESF mainly supports European research networks, and has recently developed interests in research policy. However, there is tension between the ESF and managers of the national research councils of the European Union about the influence of the research councils within the ESF.
