U.S. threatens sanctions against Japan
Article Abstract:
The US will impose trade sanctions against Japan if that country does not allow US construction and supercomputer companies to compete fairly for contracts. Japan agreed in 1988 to open up its markets but the Commerce Dept says only $189 million in contracts was awarded to US firms in 1992.

U.S., Germany reach telecom pact
Article Abstract:
The US has signed an agreement with Germany that will allow German companies to bid for US government telecommunications contracts. In return, Germany agreed not to comply with a European Community (EC) directive that gives preference to EC firms in awarding telecommunication contracts.
