The first Arab summit in years was primarily concerned with Israel's new government threatening to defy its peace-accord commitments. Egyptian Pres Hosni Mubarak, who emerged as leader, kept the group's official statement on Israel fairly civil, but also objected to some recent US behavior.

Uneasier, but not yet explosive
Article Abstract:
The attitude of Muslims towards the US attacks on Afghanistan is hardening, particularly after seeing pictures of wounded Afghan civilians. Ordinary Arabs tend to see the US action as a war against Islam, and there are fears that the US action could be extended to other Arab countries.

Relaunching the propaganda war
Article Abstract:
The US is at last making greater diplomatic efforts in its fight against terrorism, by trying to convince Muslims that it is not a war against Islam. There is growing hostility to the US amongst people in Arab countries.
