MADAGASCAR: EUR 360MN FOR NATIONAL ROADS
Article Abstract:
An offer for contract bids for road construction contracts in Madagascar were launched in February 2000, for work to begin in June 2000, as part of a motorway and road redevelopment programme. The roads and road sections for development include, the RN5 between Sambava and Antalaha (costing FFr 100mn), the Ambondromamy-Port Berger axis (costing FFr 100mn), the road between Miandrivazo and Malaimbandy (costing FFr 100mn), and the RN2, RN4 and RN7 between Antananarivo and Tamatave, Mahajanga et Tulear, respectively. In order to finance this the World Bank (EUR 300mn) and the European Union (EUR 61mn) have invested some EUR 361mn together.

PERU: AN ELECTRICITY LINE TO BE RESTRUCTURED

Unops Los Sauces in Lima has issued an international invitation to tender for the supply of electrical material for a restructuring project for the electrical sub-sector of the 220 kV Zapallal-Paramonga-Chimbote line. This project has financing from the Inter-American Development Bank. The invitation to tender concerns the supply or insulators, accessories, and conductors. The applications are to be submitted to the Lima awarder by 24 February 2000.

Vietnam: France Telecom unveils achievements
Article Abstract:
The result of a deal with the post and telecommunication office in Vietnam (VNPT), signed in 1997, France Telecom is expected to contribute to the construction of 540,000 new fixed lines in Ho Chi Minh City over five years. According to Gilbert Bolliet, France Telecom's manager in charge of this country, the French telephone operator reports almost 234,000 lines operational today as part of this deal worth US$ 467mn.
