The opening of the Guinness World of Records museum in Taichung, Taiwan, in Jan 1996 was timed very well, according to Taiwanese businessman Steve Day, who was responsible for implementing the project. The museum opened at a time when Taiwan was seeing rapid economic growth and people were seeking a new form of entertainment. His family company is involved in hat making, and he also owns eight restaurants. However, he is most interested in the museum.

Asian culture can be very inspirational, according to German entrepreneur Lars Windhorst, who has become successful in business at the age of only 20. He linked with Mellon Zhang, representative for a Taiwanese electronics company in Dusseldorf, Germany, to form Windhorst Electronics, and was particularly influenced by his first trip to Hong Kong. He created Windhorst Asia Pacific Holdings, based in Hong Kong, in 1995.
