Residence exchange wanted: a stable residence exchange problem

Article Abstract:

The stable residence exchange problem which is a special kind of matching problem is analyzed. The problem is about the voluntary exchange of rented residences among families in China based on their ordinal preferences on move-in residences. Stable residence exchange is attained through computerized exchange services by applying the forward chain algorithm. The exchange model can also be employed in other settings such as the exchange of rooms in a dormitory, the rotation of employees among various jobs or working places within the military, governments or any large organization.

Optimal stopping problem with finite-period reservation

Article Abstract:

A discrete-time optimal stopping problem with a finite planning horizon is presented. Almost all optimal stopping problems identified so far can be categorized into three models, namely, models with recall, without recall and with uncertain recall. A case study of a land selling problem revealed that an offer reserved during the search process must not be accepted prior to its maturity of reservation but may be accepted on the maturity. The precise description of the model is presented as well as numerical examples.
