North-east Thailand, a dry chronically poor area is being targeted by the Thai government to grow more rubber and thus, prevent the workers from leaving home to find jobs in other parts of the country. The region, however lacks the requisite rainfall and rubber-processing infrastructure, which may lead to a disaster according to many economists and rubber experts.
