The art of bug hunting
Article Abstract:
Companies tend not to know about all their computer systems, and they know less about embedded systems in devices. Bugs have to be located and then treated, followed by testing to ensure the treatment has worked. Embedded systems can be treated by simply replacing components. Testing tends to be time consuming and more difficult to farm out compared with correcting, since testing has to occur with the company's system as a whole. Priorities have to be set to focus on the systems that are most important.

Hackers rule
Article Abstract:
Open-source software, such as Linux, challenges the methods of the computer software industry. Linux has increased its market share after a number of major software companies released products that can use Linux. Open-source programs have been helped by the Internet which makes collaboration easier for volunteers from different countries. The large number of people who collaborate on ope-source programs means that bugs can be eliminated more easily, allowing programs to be more reliable.
