Article Abstract:
Television Corp. of Singapore (TCS) will launch a new channel on Mar. 1, 1999, that will offer purely political, business and social news. The new channel, to be called ChannelNewsAsia, will initially start operating at 6 a.m., Singapore time, and run continuously for 18 hours. It will consolidate all news and business programs that the government-owned TV firm currently offers to viewers and offer a complete English language news program. According to TCS President and CEO Lee Cheok Yew, the company expects to spend around S$100 million (US$61.35 million) to manage the new channel, which will be the first of its kind in Asia.

Seven taps Mounter as CEO
Article Abstract:
Seven Network Ltd., a television broadcasting firm headquartered in Australia, has named Julian Mounter as the company's chief executive officer and managing director. Mounter, who has replaces former chief Gary Rice, also heads his own business New Media Investments Ltd. He is also a former group chief executive of Television New Zealand and head of the Hong Kong-based satellite broadcaster Star TV. Rice left Seven Network after the firm registered a 77% decrease in net profit for the year ended June 27, 1998.
